Launch of Pilot Factsheets on National Sustainable Consumption and Production Policies

Pilot Factsheets on National Sustainable Consumption and Production Policies for Austria, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany and United Kingdom have been launched and are now available on the ETC/SCP website.

The ETC/SCP started work on Country Factsheets on National Sustainable Consumption and Production (SCP) Policies in 2008 together with the EEA, to assist EEA member countries in a structured exchange of information on existing national SCP policies and initiatives.
The goal of this initiative is to facilitate the sharing of experience, good practices and lessons learned in a policy field that is rapidly growing in importance and to provide a basis for policy analysis. Given many and varying definitions of SCP, a 'conceptual framework for SCP policies at the national level' was also developed to help determine the scope, coverage, and structure of future pilot SCP fact sheets.

SCP factsheets provide many potential benefits, including:
• inspiration and information source for the development of SCP policies at the national level;
• help in the setting of targets and selection of indicators as well as in identification of policy gaps
• provide visibility to activities and policies in place to support SCP, as well as help in benchmarking of countries;
• facilitate compliance with reporting obligations at various levels (EU, UN, OECD);
• reference point for checking policy coherence between the different government departments;
• capacity building and input to global processes in the area of SCP.
